ENERGY STAR® specifications for residential windows, doors and skylights will be changing to Version 7.0 effective October 23, 2023. This change will lower the U-factor requirements for all climate zones and will lower SHGC requirements in the South Central and Southern zones. Additionally, Version 7.0 will establish a minimum SHGC requirement for the Northern Zone.
The ENERGY STAR® version 7.0 requirements will require specification of different, more efficient glass options than are currently being used to meet today’s ENERGY STAR® version 6.0 certifications. Whether to meet building code or preference for ENERGY STAR® certified products, homebuilders and contractors, will need to evaluate the glass packages they offer.
