When you purchase and install ENERGY STAR® certified windows and doors you can earn a federal tax credit of up to $500*. Designed to provide ideal energy efficiency for where you live, ENERGY STAR certified windows help save on utility bills, keep your home consistently comfortable and protect the environment.
Purchase windows and doors that meet ENERGY STAR requirements for your climate zone. Use the ENERGY STAR Climate Zone map to identify your home’s region.
Install the products in the taxpayer’s primary residence through December 31,
Save your purchase documentation including your sales receipt, a copy of the Simonton Manufacturer’s Certification Statement (attached below) and NFRC Ratings/ENERGY STAR product performance verification. The window/door NFRC Ratings and ENERGY STAR qualification information is printed on the Simonton NFRC Label, so be sure to save that documentation.
Finally, claim the credit when you file your taxes for the applicable tax year.
The energy tax credit is 10 percent of the purchase cost of ENERGY STAR certified windows and doors up to $200 for windows and up to $500 for doors. This does not include installation.
You don’t have to replace all the windows and doors in your home to apply for the energy tax credit. ENERGY STAR certified products that are added where a window and patio door didn’t exist also qualify. New construction homes and rentals are not eligible for the tax credit.
A homeowner cannot receive more than $500 for all total energy efficiency tax credits. If you have claimed an energy tax credit in the past, consult a tax professional or visit irs.gov to see if you are still eligible.
Visit energystar.gov and irs.gov for complete energy tax credit details, restrictions and limitations.
