Homes for Our Troops
Names Savan to Board of Directors

TAUNTON, MASS. –  Homes for Our Troops, the non-profit organization dedicated to building homes for severely disabled service members, has named Mark Savan to its board of directors. Savan, the president of Simonton Windows®, will serve on the board as a liaison between the organization and corporate donors and contractors. He will also advise in the overall development of the organization and provide insights on long-term growth strategies.

“The addition of Mark to our board of directors at Homes for Our Troops enables our organization to grow steadily in our desire to efficiently provide vital services for our deserving American heroes,” according to John Gonsalves, founder and president of Homes for Our Troops. “Mark brings to our board valuable experience, knowledge and industry contacts that enable him to provide organizational insights in terms of growth potential.

“In addition, Mark’s abilities to help us reach out to manufacturers and others in the building supply industry are an asset to Homes for Our Troops. We’re all looking forward to working closely with Mark and welcoming him to our team. He has already demonstrated his dedication to our efforts and we know he will be a valuable asset in helping us execute our mission to provide specially adapted homes for our severely injured service members.”

Simonton Windows has been a corporate founding sponsor of Homes for Our Troops since the organization was started in 2004. Simonton was presented with the organization’s 2006 Outstanding Corporate Supporter Award last year and was also awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service on June 28, 2007 by four-star General Robert Magnus, the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps.

In making the presentation, General Magnus cited Simonton’s exemplary efforts to provide windows and doors to homes being constructed by Homes for Our Troops for injured service men and women returning from Iraq. The presentation, which was held in the Pentagon Press Briefing Room, recognized Simonton Windows “For exceptional public service in support of the Armed Forces of the United States and its support of the America Supports You program.”

“Our entire company is dedicated to supporting Homes for Our Troops,” says Savan. “From the employees who make the products being donated to the homes for the service members, to those who are doing fundraising efforts locally, we are passionate about this organization. We have an employee running in the 2008 Boston Marathon on behalf of Homes for Our Troops. We have employees waiting for Troops projects to be started in their areas so they can dedicate their time and talents to construction aspects. Overall, we have adopted this worthy organization and share its commitment to supporting our returning service members. I’m proud to have been asked to serve on the board of directors and eagerly look forward to contributing to Homes for Our Troops.”

Homes for Our Troops was created to help severely wounded service men and women with serious disabilities and injuries. Based in Massachusetts, the organization coordinates the donation of products and labor to build new homes or adapt existing homes for handicapped accessibility for the specific needs of a returning veteran, at no cost to the service person.
