Simonton Windows and Rollin’ Supply Support Young American House Program in Maryland
August 31 2012COLUMBUS, OHIO – Thanks to the guidance of experienced window professionals from both Rollin’ Supply and Simonton Windows, 40 high school students now have a better understanding of proper window installation techniques.
As part of their construction technology training at Thomas Edison High School of Technology in Silver Spring, Md., the students recently participated in the step-by-step installation of Simonton ProFinish® windows in a project home located near their school. The home under construction is sponsored by the Montgomery County Students Construction Trades Foundation, a nonprofit foundation encouraging the interest of career education related to the construction industry. The home --- the 39th home built as part of the Young American House Program --- will take two years to complete so that the students can learn all aspects of the construction industry.
“This hands-on learning program is an investment in the future of our industry,” says Jeff Lemley of Rollin’ Supply out of Rockville, Md. “We worked with two sets of students to educate them on the proper way to flash, install and secure a window in an opening. They had the opportunity to install the Simonton ProFinish windows in this project home which will be sold when completed. Profits from the sale support the project, which is self-sustaining, along with providing scholarships for students enrolled in construction management classes at Montgomery College.”
Founded in 1976, the Young American House Program focuses on giving high school juniors and seniors experience with five key construction trade areas: carpentry, masonry, electricity, HVAC and plumbing. Rollin’ Supply and Simonton Windows are repeat contributors to the program.
“Support of companies like Rollin’ Supply and Simonton Windows is crucial to the ongoing success of this program,” says Michael Fekete, instructional specialist for the program. “These companies are a valuable resource for our students. We appreciate the products, on-site instruction and real-world insights into window installation that these professionals provide for our students.”
